IG THz was meeting at IEEE 802 Plenaries
Main tasks:
Monitoring developments in emerging THz communications
Frequently guest speakers have been invited
Monitoring and contributions towards regulatory aspects, e. g. in the preparation of WRC 2012
Looking for opportunities to spin-off a study group
=> this has happend in 2012: SG 100G -> TG3d

Working Method since 2012
IG THz was meeting still at plenaries, when required also at wireless interims
Often meetings are organised as joint meetings with TG3d
IG THz provides a platform to discuss and monitor developments, that are out of the scope of TG3d
IG THz provides also a platform to work on regulatory issues in the THz frequency range, which are out of scope of TG3d

Some Observations…
The attendees of IG THz are basically the same as those attending TG3d
Attendees in TG3d are busy with the working on the draft standard
There are less technical contributions compared to the period 2008 to 2012

6. Is there still a need for IG THz?

Is there still a need for IG THz?
The existence of the IG THz is still important, because….
Wrt the process of WRC 2019 it is important to have a group in IEEE 802 active in THz communications in order to enable IEEE 802 to answer liaison statements form ITU-R also in the period after TG3d has has been completed.
There are many more potential applications in this frequency range than those currently in he scope of TG3d.
=> IG THz will be a vehicle to spin-off study groups for furher amendments of IEEE

7. How can we increase more interest?

How can we increase more interest?
Compared to the former period 2008 – 2012 the number of world-wide research projects on THz communications has significantly increased.
This provides a big opportunity to attract more attendees to the meetings.
However, the current policy of basicly having meetings at IEEE plenaries may be not optimal.
We need to meet at places only, where chances are high to attract attendees working on THz communications

8. Which possibilities do we have to organise meetings?

Which possibilities do we have to organise meetings?
Inside the IEEE 802 schedule:
We have to abandon the policy of meeting every plenary.
Instead pick the most appropriate locations from plenaries and wireless interim
Outside IEEE:
Consider to oranganize dedicated workshops at conferences, e. .g IEEE MTT, European Microwave Week, etc.
