Figure 1 Haemodynamic, inflammatory, hepatic, and coagulation parameters from admission to death Mean values are shown at some timepoints. APPT=activated partial thromboplastin time. MARS=molecular absorbent recirculation system. FFP=fresh frozen plasma. The Lancet Infectious Diseases , DOI: ( /S (12)70018-X) Copyright © 2012 Elsevier Ltd Terms and Conditions

Figure 2 Electron microscopy and phylogenetic analysis
(A) Typical Marburg virus particle in serum from the patient. Virus particles were pelleted by centrifugation and subjected to negative stain electron microscopy. (B) Phylogeny of the Marburg virus clade, including the new Leiden strain, based on full-length genome sequences. The unrooted tree was inferred by the Bayesian Markov chain Monte Carlo method in MrBayes software. Posterior support values calculated by the BEAST program are shown on the branches. They show the reliability of the phylogenetic reconstruction and range from 0 to 1; the maximum of 1 means that the topology of the tree is very reliable. Figure 3 Cytokines, vascular growth factors, and virus load
(A) Interleukin-10, (B) interferon-γ, (C) tumour necrosis factor-α, (D) interleukin-6, (E) placenta growth factor, (F) soluble vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 1, (G) interleukin-12, and (H) angiopoietin-2 concentrations, and (I) Marberg virus load were measured.
