Shi Jin, Department of Chemistry, College of Staten Island, The City University of New York, Staten Island, NY 10314 Unsymmetrically substituted perylene tetracarboxylic diimides: Our designation for -stacking tuning in perylene tetracarboxylic diimides (PDI)s by modifying the imide substituent, which can be done symmetrically or unsymmetrically We aim to develop efficient method toward unsymmetrically substituted PDIs and unsymmetrically tune -stacks in solid PDIs. Two approaches have been developed in this purpose. An array of unsymmetrically substituted PDIs have been prepared. We have found that unsymmetric tuning could have profound influence on the phase structure of PDIs in the condensed phases.
