Haiku Haiku is a form of Japanese poetry.

History of Haiku People began chanting to the gods in haiku in about 760 AD. Haiku became the favorite of the imperial family during the 9th through 11th centuries. It is unclear where Haiku was created, but trails lead back to Persia or India.

Basho Basho is a famous haiku writer. He lived from 1654-1694.
Here is one of his haiku: Water jar cracks: I lie awake This icy night.
