Page 27 #1A, 1B, 2B, 3A, 3B, and 5 – use complete sentences. Be as detailed as possible. 1A. The difference between a direct democracy and a republic is __________. 1A. There are a few differences between a direct democracy and a republic. In a direct democracy, all citizens vote on all laws. Citizens debate and discuss the proposed laws in an assembly where everyone can talk and debate. A republic is a form of government that is more efficient than a direct democracy. In a republic, citizens are represented by leaders who make the important decision for them. Laws are created faster and more easily since only a few people are involved. In a democratic republic, citizens are able to elect leader that they trust.

1B. The importance of having a written law code is so that everyone knows the laws. 1B. It is very important to have a written law code. When the laws are written, everyone is able to know the laws. This is fair to everyone because they are able to know what to do and what not to do. They wont end up being punished for rules that they didn’t even know were actual rules. Also, when the laws are written down, the rules are more stable and wont just change because leaders forgot or just felt like changing it.

This increased the importance of peasants and other workers in society. In addition, the increase of trade brought the Black Plague to Europe. This killed off many workers and made them more valuable and powerful. As a result, the knights and the nobles became less important. The peasants found other work as merchants and became more powerful than the knights and nobles.
