1. New Multi-redox Htereocycles for Materials Applications

The goal of this project is the development of a new class of heterocyclic compounds, such as 1 and 2, that readily undergo two 1-electron reversible red-ox processes and form stable free radicals.
In this context, we developed a convenient synthetic access to the triazinium cation, an oxidized form of 1. Mild and pH-neutral reaction conditions permit the introduction of functional groups and tailoring molecular and bulk properties of materials containing 1.
Preliminary results demonstrate that the skeleton of 2 is formed in a formal dehydration process of the corresponding benzhydrazide.
