1
Changes in Waves Essential Question:
How do changes in one part of a wave affect other parts of a wave? (S8P4a,f) Instructional Approach(s): The teacher should introduce the essential question and the standard that aligns to the essential question
2
Use the PowerPoint to fill in the Changes in Wave Properties Notes
Instructional Approach(s): The teacher should give each student the Waves Notes sheet to use to record important information throughout the lesson
3
Review: Parts of a Transverse Wave
The amplitude is the peak (greatest) value (either positive or negative) of a wave. The distance from the undisturbed level to the trough or crest. Instructional Approach(s): The teacher should present the information on the slide while the students record the important information on their notes
4
Larger amplitude = More Energy
Less Energy Transferred More Energy Transferred Instructional Approach(s): The teacher should present the information on the slide while the students record the important information on their notes
5
The wavelength is the distance…
Review: Parts of a Wave The wavelength is the distance… between the crests or troughs of two consecutive transverse waves Instructional Approach(s): The teacher should present the information on the slide as a review for parts waves. from compression to compression or rarefaction to rarefaction in a compressional wave
6
Frequency is the number of wavelengths that pass a point in a given amount of time.
Low Frequency Instructional Approach(s): The teacher should present the information on the slide while the students record the important information on their notes High Frequency
7
Wavelength and Frequency are inversely related.
If a wave is traveling at the same speed, as the frequency of a wave increases, its wavelength decreases. The same is true in reverse. As the wavelength of a wave increases, its frequency decreases.
8
Low Frequency High Frequency Long Wavelength Short Wavelength
9
Wavelength, Frequency, and Energy
Shorter Wavelength = Higher Frequency = More Energy Longer Wavelength = Lower Frequency = Less Energy Instructional Approach(s): The teacher should present the information on the slide while the students record the important information on their notes
10
Check For Understanding: Complete the Reinforcement Wave Properties Worksheet in Notes Early Finishers, begin HW on quizlet Instructional Approach(s): Each student should complete the summarizer. The teacher should use the summarizer to determine the level of student mastery and if differentiation is needed.
