Student Learning Outcome
Identify the rhetorical strategies used to support an argument. Analyze how those strategies contribute to the author’s appeals to ethos, pathos, and logos. Evaluate the extent to which those appeals persuade the intended audience. Discuss how those strategies are based on key assumptions the author makes about that audience.

Hook You need a hook. Can be about smoking, student newspaper writing, rhetorical strategies, appeals, or something else that is interesting and relevant. Example hooks.

Rhetorical Situation Please include the rhetorical situation for BOTH articles. Be concise but do not leave anything important out. This is to contextualize the pieces for readers.

Rhetorical Situation Talk about AUDIENCE in rhetorical situation.
The audience is students. Mention that these were published in student newspapers. Mention that these were written by students.

Thesis You must also have a thesis.
You can use the same format as before: “In this paper I will analyze…” You should probably say that one author is more effective than the other and why.

Conclusion the significance of the argument
how the authors have impacted your thinking/views on this topic some other idea which brings the topic of smoking further than the base arguments

Conclusion Please do not just restate your introduction.
Please take your essay further than just reiterating that so-and-so is effective/ineffective.
