PYP Exhibition 2018

2 Exhibition As part of the IB Primary Years Programme, Students who are in their final year of the PYP carry out a project called ‘Exhibition’. It is a chance for them to engage in an in-depth, collaborative inquiry, reflect on their journey through your PYP years and to share their learning experiences as Global Citizens.

3 With the guidance of the teachers, students will select an area of study that is related to the central idea under the transdisciplinary theme, “Sharing the Planet”

4 Sharing the Planet An inquiry into the rights and responsibilities in the struggle to share finite resources with other people and other living things; communities and the relationships within and between them; access to equal opportunities; peace and conflict resolution.

6 Lines of Inquiry For example:
An inquiry into how Migration has changed and is changing the world. An inquiry into how  explorers; past, present, and future have changed the world.  An inquiry into how technology and discoveries have changed and are changing the world.

7 What is required of students?
Written work Exhibition Written Research An oral presentation Visual display Examples of: models, designs or experiments Performance or demonstration of understanding in another medium: Dance, drama, film, video , poetry

8 The Learner Profile Students are always expected to demonstrate the attributes outlined in the Learner Profile. Within exhibition, they will also be asked to reflect on these attributes and apply them to their work.

12 How will students learn?
Students may visit a variety of sites, both real and virtual, and invite speakers to share their expertise and experiences with us. These experiences will provide models and examples of how individuals, through the pursuit of their passions, have made lasting contributions within their own communities and our society at large. Students will be provided with graphic organizers and tools to guide them through the inquiry process and help them to develop their ideas. In addition, we will be providing on-site mentors to support students as they plan, reflect, revise and complete their projects.

13 The Role of the Student Understand the purpose and requirements of the Exhibition process Ask clarifying questions as they arise Participate in selecting possible issues or problems for further inquiry Develop the inquiry by helping to decide on the lines of inquiry and the student questions Participate in the collaborative process of negotiating learning and assessment experiences Use a variety of sources and materials when conducting research and collecting information on a topic (not just internet research!) Keep track of resources using a bibliography Keep an organized portfolio of the planning including draft pieces of work, photographs and other of work in progress Manage time efficiently

14 What about homework? All classes will continue regular lessons during this period of time Students will be given ample class time to work on this project, but may need to dedicate some out of school time to researching or visiting community experts Work done at home must be completed independently

15 How can parents help? Support and encourage your child
Help to inspire by discussing your child’s goals, passions and aspirations and perhaps provide another perspective Help to locate resources (written and oral) Share your experiences! CELEBRATE – come and share in the demonstration of student learning on March 20 at 1:30 – 3:00

16 Assessing Student Work
Rubrics and checklists have been created and will be used to assess student work. Students will also help to develop some assessment tools. Journal Exhibition Written component Oral Presentation Display of learning/Product Application of the attributes of the Learner Profile Application of the PYP attitudes, transdisciplinary skills, concepts and action component Effort Technology
