Unit 3 Lesson 1 Part 2 Multiplying and Dividing Radicals
2
Multiplying and Dividing Radicals
Suppose we are given the following problem:
3
Multiplying and Dividing Radicals
Since the roots (root 2) are the same, we can multiply the radicands (the numbers inside the √).
4
Multiplying and Dividing Radicals
Let’s try another example….
5
Multiplying and Dividing Radicals
This time we are dividing. Again, since the roots are the same we can simply divide the radicands.
6
Multiplying and Dividing Radicals
Also we can multiply 3 and 7 because they are both inside the radicand. Now let’s try another example…. Since 4 and 5 are outside the radicand, we can multiply these numbers.
7
Multiplying and Dividing Radicals
Also we can multiply 3 and 7 because they are both inside the radicand.
8
Multiplying and Dividing Radicals
One last example….
9
Multiplying and Dividing Radicals
Again we can divide the numbers outside the radicand as well as the numbers inside the radicand.
10
Summary… Make sure the roots are the same
Remember to multiply/divide outside by outside and inside by inside Now go watch the videos for more examples
