Physical Change a change in one or more of matter’s physical properties. Examples: size, shape, or state of matter the identity of the element or compound—does not change. Examples: Melting, Boiling, Freezing, Slicing, Crushing, Glass Breaking

Chemical Change When matter changes chemically into an entirely different substance with different chemical properties. change of one substance to another (makes something new)

Reversing Chemical Changes
Because chemical changes produce new substances, they often cannot be undone. Example: fried egg back to raw egg Some can be reversed Example: remove tarnish from pennies with vinegar

Conservation of Mass Law of conservation of mass – matter cannot be created or destroyed. Example: camp fire
