versus 2.75mm Incision Phacoemulsification

Much seems better with C-MICS...
Surgically induced astigmatismus lowered Hayashi, Yoshida & Hayashi. J Cataract Refract Surg Feb;35(2):233-9 Higher order aberrations decreased Tong et al. J Cataract Refract Surg Dec;34(12): Corneal structure and profile improved Elkady, Piñero, Alió. 3
Purpose of this study To examine if, in a clinical setting, refraction stability is significantly better after 1.8 mm Coaxial Micro Incision Cataract Surgery (C-MICS) compared with 2.75 mm standard phacoemulsification surgery (STDPS)
4
C-MICS 1.8mm (Stellaris®, Bausch&Lomb), n=46
Methods and Material C-MICS 1.8mm (Stellaris®, Bausch&Lomb), n=46 STDPS 2.75mm (Legacy®, Alcon), n=59 SRK-T (IOLmaster, AXIS-II immersion) Follow-up data after operations during March 2009, as reported to Swedish National Cataract Register: planned and resulting refraction, K-readings. 1week and 7weeks after surgery
5
N.S. No significant difference MICS – STDPS
At 7 weeks after cataract operation: How many eyes remain within +/-0.5 D sph&cyl of the refraction at 1 week? N.S. P = 0,26, chi²-test No significant difference MICS – STDPS
6
Refraction target accuracy
N.S. chi²-test N.S. chi²-test N.S. chi²-test No significant difference MICS - STDPS
7
Conclusions: In a clinical setting, 1.8mm Coaxial Micro Incision Cataract Surgery (C-MICS) and 2.75mm standard phacoemulsification surgery (STDPS) did not differ with statistical significance, regarding Refraction stability Refraction target accuracy More detailed investigations regarding the refractive recovery after phacoemulsification surgery are necessary
