3 History of Disability Service Offices
Disability Service (DS) Offices started as a response to federal mandates like Section 504 and ADA of 1990 Mostly compliance based Previously it was very transactional 69% of DS offices are housed in Student Affairs (Harbour, 2009) Amanda Harbour, W. (2009). The relationship between institutional unit and administrative features of disability services offices in higher education. 4 Purdue – Prior to 2016 Purdue Disability Resource Center (DRC) was not well known across campus Negative Perceptions: Authoritarian Unwelcoming/unfriendly Not a great campus partner Very Medical Model Kelsey
