Bristol is almost 900 years old. Why do you think people first settled and built in this area? - Excellent port location makes transportation of people and goods easy and the city easier to defend - Fertile lands from river deposits have created excellent farming land - Access to food (from farms and imported by ships) - Building materials from the river deposits to make clay for bricks How many people do you think live here today? A: 500,000 (London = 10m) How do you feel about living in Bristol? Does it make you feel good?

3 Did you know: Most of the world’s population will be living in cities by 2050!
That’s about 7bn people!! So scientists are trying really hard to figure out how we can make them healthier. So that there is less pollution, better food for everyone, so that people can be cosy in the winter and cool in the summer… these sorts of things. But obviously people live in villages and towns as well. So we want to hear what life is like for you so we can go tell them!

In pairs, create a two-dimensional map of the area around your school based on how it makes you feel. Label key landmarks and create a key (15 minutes) Take a sticky dot and vote on what you would like to improve in the area to make it a better place to live and work Key School – it makes me feel safe, but it is cold! Roads – they allow me to get to school River – it allows me to relax Fast cars – they are scary Rubbish – it smells Dog poo – it makes me sad Trees – they make me feel calm
