IAEA FIP/P1-34 Thermal Analysis of Protection Important Components (PIC) of ITER XRCS-Survey Diagnostic System S. Varshney et al. The impact of thermal loads on the XRCS-Survey diagnostics components has been analysed in view of reliable and safe operation of the diagnostics system. XRCS-Survey components are classified as PIC (category SIC-1) components. Found temperature of XRCS-Survey sight-tube components in different thermal cases: (1) sight-tube is baked upto 240 0C, (2) under an accidental fire before starting of baking, (3) fire sets in the room and baking jacket is switched off by safety interlocks. The third case is also included for Al sight-tube. The results show that for vacuum tube, which is forming a boundary of primary vacuum in port-cell and is of prime concern for fire safety, the temperature in 2 hrs will rise upto 110°C under accidental fire in the room. In the case of room fire when tube is at baking temperature of 240°C, the temperature of tube elevates to 210°C. Relatively higher temperature, ~240 °C is found for Al-sight-tube. In both cases temperatures well below the softening temperature of the respective materials therefore structure retain 100% of its structural integrity. . In conclusion, the preliminary thermal analysis showed safe operation of XRCS-Survey sight-tube components under applied and accidental thermal load conditions, when appropriate fire protection is applied.
