1 Introduction Growth of Bacteria

2 Lesson 1.1.2 Lesson Objective:
Students will collect and analyze data using tables and graphs. Students will be introduced to contexts that result in proportional, inversely proportional, and exponential data.

3 Problem 1-11: Data Labs Today your team will collect and analyze data from three different situations (labs). With your team, read and follow the directions for each lab carefully. Each description will tell you how much data to collect and how to collect it. Be sure to record your data in an organized way. Make sure that every team member understands what the data represents and how each pattern is changing.

4 Modified Carousel Each group will work on an assigned lab for
15 minutes. Resource managers will make sure that their teams put back all the materials. Then, each group will move in a clockwise direction to gather data on their next lab. This process will continue until all groups complete the three labs. Then, all groups will return to their original tables.

5 Problem 1-12 When you are working with your team to
solve problems in this course, it will be important to work effectively with other people. Effective math conversations are a valuable part of the learning process throughout this course. Facilitators read or choose a member to read the Collaborative Learning Expectations out loud (p. 11)

6 Problem 1-13 Resource Manager get your set of 3 resource
sheets from the resource table (1 set for each team member). Facilitators get your teams started on problem 1-13 and complete/answer parts a through c. Recorder/Reporters make sure all resource sheets are completed and all questions are answered on the resource sheet. These are to be kept in your binder under Classwork.

7 Problem 1.1.4 Resource Manager obtain a note card from
your teacher. Facilitators get your teams started on Problem Reporter/recorders make sure your answers for parts a through f are written on your note card and that your group members’ names and block number are on it as well.
