1 Irony

2 Anastasia sat by the fountain in the park with her head in her palms
Anastasia sat by the fountain in the park with her head in her palms. She was weeping mournfully and her clothing was disheveled. In between gasps and sobs, Anastasia cried out a name: “Oh... John…” And then her cell phone beeped. Her hand ran into her purse and her heart fluttered. The text message was from John. She opened up the message and read the few bare words, “I need to get my jacket back from you.” Anastasia threw her head into her arms and continued sobbing. Sob – cry noisily, making loud, convulsive gasps. Gasps - inhale suddenly with the mouth open, out of pain or astonishment. Fluttered - move or fall with a light irregular or trembling motion. What does summarize mean? Summarize this paragraph into 3 sentences.

3 Once upon a time, there was a raccoon who went through garbage bins to find food. One day, the raccoon went to this rich man’s house; this rich man always threw away a lot of food, such as turkey legs, half-eaten burgers, half-eaten pizza, and other fancy edibles. The raccoon loved how much food the rich man wasted as it meant more food for him to eat. The second time he went to get some food from the rich man’s garbage cans, the rich man was there waiting for the raccoon; the raccoon almost got caught, but he escaped the rich man’s trap. The following day, the raccoon couldn’t stop thinking about the great food that the rich man had, so he decided to risk another visit. The raccoon carefully went back to the house; however, this time, the rich man called the city’s Animal Control Unit. The raccoon was captured and displaced away from his neighbourhood in the city. The raccoon never got to see his family and friends again.
