Foreground – detail and brighter (acrylic paint) Middle ground – a little less detail and duller (oil pastel) Background – dullest(atmospheric perspective) and the least amount of detail(chalk) Ogden Trail Try your best, have fun! Dividing a landscape There are 3 sections in a landscape.
The background The middle ground The foreground Draw on your photograph now the horizon background line, horizon line, middle ground line and foreground line.

How to draw a middle ground
The middle ground will be bolder so we will use oil pastels. This needs to end right at the line for the foreground or it will not look as good. This layer should show more detail than the background, but not as much as you will put into the foreground.

Making Marks Make marks with the tip of your oil pastel
Make marks with the side Mix two colors Create a value scale with a paper towel Make a tint Make a shade Stipple Scumbling Feathering Dusting with a pallet knife

Create Middle ground Everyone will use their selected photo to create the middle ground of their art with oil pastels Once done you will than spray. Make sure your name is on the paper before you put it onto the drying rack.

Clean up! You should put all the oil pastels back into the containers.
You need to use a wet paper towel and wash off your table. Make sure that you table is dry and clean and all supplies are put back in the middle of the table.
