ANATOMY Nasal Cavity: functions as a filter to protect lower airways
Pharynx (throat): muscular tunnel that connects to esophagus Larynx (voice box): short section of airway connects to trachea Trachea (wind pipe): 5 in long tube that connects to the bronchi and allows air to pass through

ANATOMY Bronchial tubes: lets air in and out of lungs allowing you to breathe Pleura: membrane around lungs Bronchiole: passages that begin at the end of bronchi Alveoli: tiny air filled sacks within lungs that allow oxygen and carbon dioxide to move between lungs and bloodstream Diaphragm: muscle that separated chest cavity from abdomen

HEALTH CONCERNS Bronchitis: inflammation of bronchi
Upper respiratory infection: common cold Tuberculosis: highly infectious bacterial infection Asthma: bronchial airway obstruction COPD: Chronic obstruction of bronchial tubes

HEALTH CONCERNS Hemoptysis: chronic lung disease, coughing up blood from lung/bronchial tube Epistaxis: nose bleed Anthracosis: Black lung Emphysema: carbon dioxide build up; damaged alveoli Lung cancer: cancer in lung; exposure to carcinogens Pneumonia: inflammation/ infection of lung
