2 General Introduction Tablets
is defined as a compressed solid dosage form containing medicaments with or without excipients Role in therapy Oral solid forms are preferred class of product because of the following: Accurate dose Less expensive to ship without breakage or leakage Bitter taste could be masked by coating Portable More stable chemically and physically 2

3 Advantages Greatest dose precision and least variability
the lowest cost the lightest and most compact of all oral dosage forms easy to scale up in production convenience in packaging, shipping and dispensing portability ease of administration Sustained release product is possible by enteric coating. 3

4 disadvantages 1-some drugs resist compression into tab because of its amorphous nature or low density character 2-drugs with poor wettability, slow dissolution may be difficult to formulate 3- bitter testing drugs or drugs with objectionable odour or drugs  that are sensitive to oxygen may require encapsulation or coating.  In such cases, capsule may offer the best and lowest cost.  4-Difficult to swallow in case of children and unconscious patients.  4

5 Challenges in Formulation and manufacture
difficulty in achieving good bioavaiability in case of drugs with poor wetting and slow dissolution difficulty of compaction for amorphous drugs 5
