O.K., these are really the basics!
Triggered by “head” verbs e.g. “thinking, perceiving, knowing, saying, hearing, feeling, realizing, knowing, hoping, etc.” Direct Statement: Jon Bon Jovi is awesome. Indirect Statement: I think THAT Jon Bon Jovi is awesome. Subject is in the ACCUSATIVE CASE Verb is an INFINITIVE; it must agree with the accusative subject.

Practice… DIRECT STATEMENT: Jon Bongiovi est optimus.
INDIRECT STATEMENT: putō Jon Bongiovum esse optimum. Translate the following indirect statements. dīcis sōlem occidere. scio matrem venīre. 3. putant vōs vocare mē. What happens when the infinitive is in another tense??

When tenses of the infinitive change…
Tense of the infinitive: indicates the action of the ind. state. takes place BEFORE, at the SAME TIME as, or AFTER the verb that triggers it i.e. the “head” verb. PRESENT = at the Same Time PERFECT = Before FUTURE = After dīcis solem iam occidisse. dīcis solem occidere. dīcis solem occasurum esse. sciēbam mātrem ventūram esse. putābam virōs vocatōs esse.
