Good News About Temptation
1 Corinthians 10:13
3
Temptation Overtakes One
Used in two senses Trial or test. See Hebrews 11:17; James 1:2 Temptation leading to sin. See James 1:12ff Must be understood by context (1 Cor. 10:12), toward sin “Overtaken” Being caught off guard “Seized upon you, or assailed you. As when an enemy grasps us, and attempts to hold us fast” (Barnes, p. 187)

Temptation Are Common To Man
“Common to man” means it is bearable “The temptations which befell the Corinthians were such as men had resisted and could resist” (McGarvey, p. 103) This tells us that our temptations are not overwhelming and impossible and also that they have likely occurred before to others (Heb. 4:15)

God Provides A Way Of Escape
He provided one for Lot (2 Peter 2:9) God’s way of escape is through His instructions and man achieves escape by following them Idolatry is the problem of 1 Corinthians 10: The way of escape is in verse 14

We need to look for the way of escape. When found we need to follow it
“Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Matt. 26:41) “And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one” (Matt. 6:13)

Man Is Not Powerless In Handling Temptation
James says resist the devil (James 4:7) There are those who have been successful (James 1:12) Success in the struggle (Eph. 6:11) Yet, we cannot do it all on our own. There is a limit to our power, but not so with God. I believe that a good evidence of the power of God is found in that He limits temptations to what we able to bear
