Old Testament - Lesson 13 Bondage, Passover and Exodus Exodus chapters 1-14

2 The Lord shall fight for you,
Exodus 14:14 The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace. Just as the Lord delivered ancient Israel from bondage under the Egyptians, so will Christ deliver us from bondage of death and hell

3 The Twelve Sons of Jacob
Exodus 1: 1-5 Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin, Dan, and Naphtali, Gad, and Asher. Joseph   

4 Exodus 1:11-12 See also Mosiah 24
Burdens on Their Backs Exodus 1: See also Mosiah 24 11 Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens   12 But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew.

5 20 I will go with thee and deliver this people out of bondage.
Mosiah 24:17, 21 20 I will go with thee and deliver this people out of bondage.   21 [Christ] delivered them out of bondage; for they were in bondage, and none could deliver them except it were the Lord their God.

6 Christ lifts the burdens of death and hell through the Atonement

7 The Midwives Feared God
Exodus 1:17-21 Ex 1:17 But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.      20 Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty.  21 And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses. .

8 Moses became the son of Pharaoh’s Daughter
Exodus 2:1-11    Exodus 2: 7 Then said his sister to Pharaoh’s daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee?   10 And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses. Nursing Fathers and Mothers Exodus 1: & 2: See also 2 Nephi 2:9 Ex 1: 16 And he said, When ye ado the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the bstools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.   17 But the midwives afeared God, and did not as the king of Egypt bcommanded them, but saved the men children alive.      20 Therefore God dealt awell with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty.   21 And it came to pass, because the midwives afeared God, that he made them bhouses.   22 And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is aborn ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.

9 Nursing Fathers and Mothers
Exodus 1:17-21; 2: See also 2 Nephi 10:9 2 Ne 10:9 Yea, the kings of the Gentiles shall be nursing fathers unto them, and their queens shall become nursing mothers; wherefore, the promises of the Lord are great unto the Gentiles, for he hath spoken it, and who can dispute?

10 Moses and Ammon Moses (Exodus 2:16-25) 1. Moses defended the flocks of Reuel 2. Moses was given Reuel’s daughter 3. Reuel asked, where is this man? 4. The Israelites were in bondage 5. The land of Gershon – stranger 6. Moses delived Israelites 7. God had respect for Israel Ammon (Alma 17:27-39; 24; 18:8) 1. Ammon defended the flocks of Lamoni 2. Lamoni offered his daughter to Ammon 3. Lamoni asked, where is this man? 4. The converted Lamanites in bondage 5. The land of Jershon – stranger 6. Ammon delivered converts 7. Converts were forever faithful Like Moses and Ammon, we can help gather the flocks that have been scattered and help deliver them from bondage by taking them to the well of pure water, or by teaching them the pure Gospel of Christ.

11 Jewels of Silver and Gold
Ex 3:21 And I will give this people favour in the sight of the Egyptians: and it shall come to pass, that, when ye go, ye shall not go empty: Ex 3:22 But every woman shall borrow of her neighbour, and of her that sojourneth in her house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment: and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters; and ye shall spoil the Egyptians Ex 11:2 Speak now in the ears of the people, and let every man borrow of his neighbour, and every woman of her neighbour, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold. Ex 12:36 And the Lord gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they lent unto them such things as they required. And they spoiled the Egyptians. The Jewels of Silver and Gold are: A. The precious things like gold and silver from Egypt B. Horses and chariots to escape from the Egyptians C. The converts from Egypt who where not Israelites

12 1 Ne 20:6 I will send [Christ and his servants] against a hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.

13 Prophecy of the Death of Christ Exodus 10:21-23
Ex 10:21 ¶ And the Lord said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt.   22 And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days:   23 They saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.   

14 I Ne 19: 10 And the God of our fathers, who were led out of Egypt, out of bondage, and also were preserved in the wilderness by him, yea, the God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, yieldeth himself, according to the words of the angel, as a man, into the hands of wicked men, (1) to be lifted up, according to the words of Zenock, and (2) to be crucified, according to the words of Neum, and (3) to be buried in a sepulchre, according to the words of Zenos, which he spake concerning the three days of darkness, which should be a sign given of his death unto those who should inhabit the isles of the sea, more especially given unto those who are of the house of Israel.

15 Christ is the Lamb Exodus 12:5; 46; 7-8
1. Lamb without blemish 2. A male 3. Of the first year 4. Neither shall ye break a bone 5. Strike blood on doorposts 6. Unleavened bread 7. Bitter herbs 8. The Destroying Angel 1. Christ is without sin 2. A male 3. The first born of God 4. No bones were broken 5. Partake of the sacrament 6. Be not puffed up - humble 7. Christ drank the bitter cup 8. Satan is defeated Isaiah 53:7 - He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

16 The Light of the Christ Ex 13:21-22
A. And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; B. and by night in a pillar of fire, X. To give them light; to go by day and night: A. He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, B. nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people.

17 The Holy Ghost shall be thy constant companion
Ether 6:10 And thus they were driven forth; A. And no monster of the sea could break them, B. Neither whale that could mar them; X. And they did have light continually, A. Whether it was above the water B. or under the water. D&C 121:46 The Holy Ghost shall be thy constant companion

18 14 The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.
Exodus 14: 14,16 14 The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace. 16 and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea. Exodus 19:5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:
