Students must have an EHIC card, obtainable for FREE at A valid EHIC gives you the right to access state-provided healthcare during a temporary stay in another European Economic Area (EEA) country. The EHIC covers treatment that is medically necessary until your planned return home. Treatment should be provided on the same basis as it would to a resident of that country, either at a reduced cost or, in many cases, free of charge. If your child is entitled to, but has not applied for, an EHIC, and requires medical treatment whilst abroad, our insurers will not reimburse any costs incurred that would have been provided free or at a reduced rate had a valid EHIC card been presented.
