The current pathway of care for outpatient STEMI contains several features that lead to improved outcomes relative to inpatient STEMI. Sources of delay in the care of inpatient STEMI can result from patient characteristics and from the lack of appropriate systems outside of the emergency medicine setting. Improvements in the care of inpatient STEMI can reduce the times taken for diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
