“The New York Daily News suggested that my biggest war crime was not killing myself like a gentleman. Presumably Hitler was a gentleman” (162).
To this day, Hitler is seen as one of the worst people to ever hold power on this planet.
What does Vonnegut want the reader to think when this statement is made?

5. Eichmann’s Excuse
“ ‘You were simply a soldier, were you—…taking orders from higher-ups, like, soldiers around the world’” (165).
“Eichmann cannot distinguish between right and wrong…My case is different” (166).
Is this a fair thought for someone that has done what Eichmann did?
Should all people (not only military personnel) be held responsible when following orders from superiors?
