LUKE 16:19-21 19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: 20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, 21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
3
LUKE 16:22-23 22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; 23 And in hell (hades) he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
5
King David said, “I WAS SO GLAD WHEN THEY SAID UNTO ME, Let us go into the house of the Lord” (Psalm 122:1).
6
VISITORS: you are our welcomed and honored guest.
We want you (our visitors) to know a little more about the Word of God (John 1:1-3, 14; 14:6; 8:32; 17:17).
7
The prophet Isaiah said, “The grass withers and the flower fades away, but the word of our God will stand forever” (Isaiah 40:7; John 12:48). The faithful Christian has made his “calling and election sure” (2 Peter 1:10).

Story About Gale and her death…
Where did Gale go? Where do we go…?

THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH
10
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH
You are a trichotomy – three parts – body, soul, & spirit. God declared that He “formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath (or spirit) of life; and man became a living soul” (Genesis 2:7).
11
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH
Paul said, “And I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ”(1 Thessalonians 5:23). The Holy Spirit says, “Whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31).
12
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH
Hear the apostle Paul, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service” (Romans 12:1). The Holy Spirit says that you should “receive with meekness the engrafted word which is able to save your soul” (James 1:21).
13
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH
Again, God “formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils; the breath (the spirit) of life; and man became a living nephesh - a living soul” (Genesis 2:7). For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit” (Heb. 4:12).
14
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH
The body is the house that your soul and spirit live in. When you look at me, you don’t see me - you see the house. What makes me me is my soul. The real you is your soul.
15
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH
The spirit is what God gives you. “Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it” (Ecc. 12:7). The Spirit is a “capacity.” God is Spirit (John 4:24). You must decide to accept God into your life.
16
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH
You accept God when you believe and obey the gospel (John 3:3-7; Rom. 10:16; 2 Thess. 1:7-9; Acts 2:38; Matt. 26:28; Eph. 2:8-9; Gal. 3:27; Eph. 1:3). The Bible says that His Spirit “bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God” (Romans 8:16).
17
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH
What does God want you to do? God wants you to present your body to him as a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1). God wants you to hear, believe and obey the Gospel and thus, save your soul (Mark 16:15-16; James 1:21). God wants you to let His Spirit dwell in your life.
18
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH
The Holy Spirit says that “Christ dwells in your heart by faith” (Ephesians 3:17). Faith comes by hearing the Holy Spirit’s inspired word (Romans 10:17).
19
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH
Someone may be saying, “I don’t like… “I don’t even believe there is a God.” That’s OK…That’s OK. However, when your body dies, the question is still on the floor: Where do you go? Where does your soul go when your body dies? (Heb. 9:27).
20
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH
When you die, “Then shall the dust (your body) return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it” (Ecc. 12:7). All spirits belong to God (Heb. 12:9).
21
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH
We will now use Jesus as our example of what happens at death. Jesus Christ was a man just like I am (Luke 23). In Luke 23:43 Jesus told one thief that they would be together in Paradise. Then in verse 46, Jesus cried and said, “Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit” (cf. Ecc. 12:7).
22
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH
Joseph of Arimathaea: The Bible says, “…This man went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid” (Luke 23:50-53).
23
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH
Where did His soul go? “The prophet David seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption” (Acts 2:31).
24
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH
HELL 1. Gehenna (Hell-Fire); “The lake of fire…the second death” (Revelation 20:14).
25
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH
2. Hades –Jesus said to Peter, “Upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell (HADES) shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18). Hades is the place where the disembodied souls wait for the judgment. Hades has two parts - Paradise and Tartarus.
26
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH
3. Tartarus - The place in Hades for the wicked to wait for the Judgment Day. Peter wrote, “…God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell (Tartarus), and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment” (2 Peter 2:4; cf. 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9).
27
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH
At death only the body dies. God said, “Dust thou art, and unto dust shall thou return” (Gen. 3:19). Jesus said, “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell (Gehenna)” (Matthew 10:28; cf. Romans 6:3-4).
28
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH
Death means a separation. It is a separation of the body from the spirit. “The body without the spirit is dead” (James 2:26). Three Circles: the Physical world, the Hadean world, and the Judgment.
29
Hadean World Paradise – The place where the soul of the faithful Christian goes at death. Tartarus – The place where the soul of the wicked goes at death. Illustration: Husband and wife die in a car accident (Matthew 16:18; Acts 20:28).
30
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH
They both die at the same time, but they don’t go to the same place. Tartarus is for souls of people… Only the man with the keys can open the door. Jesus has “the keys of hell (hades) and of death” (Revelation 1:18).
31
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH
THE JUDGMENT Question: Why do we need a Judgment Day? Illustration: Cold Blooded Killer… The wicked are pronounced guilty and sentenced to Gehenna on Judgment Day.
32
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH
The Bible says, “The wicked shall be turned into hell” (Psalm 9:17). The Holy Spirit says, “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27). QUESTION: Will we know anything in Hades?
33
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH Luke 16
19 “There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day.” God said, “Blessed are the pure in heart. For they shall see God” (Matthew 5:8).
34
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH
God is interested in your heart. The Bible says, “For the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7; 13:14). Also study Genesis 6:5; Proverbs 3:5; 4:23; 10:8; Matthew 5:8; 6:21; 12:34-35; 15:8, 18-19; 22:37.
35
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH Luke 16
20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, 21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin (James 4:17).
36
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH Luke 16
22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried. Death is an equalizer (Ecc. 3:18-20; 8:8; 9:2-3; Revelation 20:12; 2 Corinthians 5:10).
37
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH Luke 16
23 And in hell (hades) he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
38
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH Luke 16
24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. The rich man lived a rich worldly life (James 5:1-6).
39
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH Luke 16
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap” (Galatians 6:7).
40
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH Luke 16
25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
41
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH Luke 16
27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: 28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment (cf. Proverbs 11:30).
42
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH Luke 16
26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence (cf. Revelation 1:18).
43
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH Luke 16
29-31 – “Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
44
THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AFTER DEATH
Faith is the Key (1 John 5:4; Heb. 11:6; Eph. 2:8-9; Romans 10:17). INVITATION
45
INVITATION Let me start this invitation with a few personal loving words. Only the truth of God’s word can make you FREE from the devil’s deceptions/substitutes. Great emphasis has been placed on the authority and essentiality of the word.
46
INVITATION You have been deceived by denominational preachers in their man-made churches. The Bible has no errors. It is all you need to follow to do every good work. Through faith in God’s word you will obtain an eternal inheritance.
47
INVITATION You have heard the truth of God’s word today.
There is only ONE true and living God. Jesus lived without sin, did miracles, died for our sins, was buried and rose the 3rd day. Jesus built His ONE church – the body or church of Christ – the church of God.
48
INVITATION You must be a faithful member in His ONE church if you want to make Heaven your eternal home. Are you keeping the precepts reveal to us in the Bible? One day you will answer to God for all that you have done or NOT done.
49
INVITATION You and I will be judged by the words of the New Testament.
For more than 2000 years, Christians have been remembering Jesus’ death in our weekly observance of the Lord’s Supper. Many souls today desire to celebrate His birth.
50
INVITATION Without His birth there would not have been His sinless life. Even so, it is His death that provides hope. It was Calvary, NOT Bethlehem… Don’t follow anyone who is not following Jesus the Christ.
51
INVITATION To be saved you must trust Jesus by faith and repentance. To be saved you must be baptized so that the blood of Jesus can cleanse your past sins. There is only ONE true baptism (Eph. 4:4-6). That ONE baptism NOW saves us (1 Peter 3:21; 2 Timothy 2:10; Galatians 3:27).
52
INVITATION The Lord Jesus adds your saved soul to His church (Acts 2:47). Baptism is valid only for a believing penitent soul (Acts 2:38; Luke 8:15). All things are ready for you to become JUST A Christian.
53
INVITATION You must then follow Jesus by walking in the light and making more followers for the Lord. You can obey God now, or keep on disobeying Him. It’s your choice. But remember: Die You Must. At judgment, it will be sad outside of Christ.
54
INVITATION Jesus is knocking at your door. Do you hear Him?
And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt (Daniel 12:2).
55
INVITATION The wise are warned to “number our days” (Psalm 90:12; James 4:14). Those that are born twice will die only once. Those that are born only once will die twice. You can come to Jesus right now just as you are. Come now for prayer or baptism while we sing.
