WEEKLY FLUENCY PRACTICE ON
TUESDAYS & WEDNESDAYS:
Practice reading the passage, if needed, prior to timing your child.
Have your child read the passage to you while you time for one minute.
Record the number of words and the number of mistakes read in one minute.
Review the mistakes with your child and model how the passage should be read.
Ask your child to retell the story without looking back at the passage.
If your child is struggling, give prompts such as:
“What happened at the beginning?”
“Where did the story happen?”
“Who were the main characters?”
“What was the problem? Why?”
“What happened next?”
“How was the problem solved?”
SIGHT WORDS:
Please continue working on spelling and writing Lists A, B & C from our 1st Grade sight word list. Please continue to practice any lists where words are not instantly recognized (without sounding out) within 3 seconds.
