Objectives Locate an ebook within the Cannon Memorial Library
Check out and download digital titles from one of the library’s databases. EBSCO ProQuest My goal for today is to first help you locate an ebook within the library. Secondly, I’m here to help articulate how you can check out and download an ebook from one of the libraries database, more specifically EBSCO and if we have time ProQuest. If we do not have the time you can expect step by step notes on this PowerPoint. In many ways this presentation is meant to be followed step by step however, for those who are attending the live session you may find that I may go either to slow or way to fast for you to truly follow along. Do not worry. This session is going to be recorded for use and the power point will be made available. So, you may find that the live session is best to listen at first and the follow along at a later time. I am also available to talk you through at a more comfortable pace at a later time.

Why you should Download ebooks
Offline usage Unlike the printed books you must be connected online to view the initial access to any ebook. Now you may not always have a connection for various reasons. So by downloading the ebook will allow you access to the book during times you are not connected to the web. Essentially providing you stable and constant access to said book.. This is especially good for our students military students who many not necessarily have readily access to an internet connection. Or simply our students trying to read during spring break.

Be Aware of 7 days loan period from point of download
Unable to download any single user access ebooks ePub vs. PDF publisher dependent Currently all ebooks provided through EBSCO and ProQuest provide our users one week borrowing privileges. Licensing is huge in the ebook world. For better or for worse every publisher puts a certain amount of restrictions on access. Within EBSCO and ProQuest you will encounter five difference licensing types by our users. Single user, three user, unlimited, non linear, and DRM free. The single user and three users limited the amount of viewers either 1 to three users at a time. The library is sometimes capable of purchasing multiple single user or three user licenses which would grant more access additional access but still limited. Unlimited and non linear operates similar to each other. It’ll allows many students access to an ebook at once. The biggest difference is with nonlinear. Nonlinear allows a set number of views each year but once that number is reached all access to the ebook is cut. Thankfully that number is large and typically never reached. Last but not least the most ideal type is DRM free ebooks. DRM or digital rights management free which means the publisher is offering the ebook with no restrictions on the amount of access, or printing. However, not all books are currently DRM free.
