3 Getting to know Mrs. Moose
I’m from Miami born and raised I’m married and have two little girls Sophia 6 & Bella 2 This is my 7th year teaching I have a Masters Degree from Florida International University. I taught 4th last year here at DAC

4 Grade level curriculum with acceleration in core subjects.
Student are selected based on performance, teacher recommendation and Gifted qualification.

5 What ‘s on the menu for the ACCEL 3rd grade class this year?
Students will be exposed to various types of literature. Class will be held to higher order thinking questions. Open-ended responses and tasks. Group activities which enable children to process and think abstractly. Instruction will be accelerated.

8 Perfect Attendance Policy
STUDENT UNIFORMS Uniform tops must be a solid color and bear the corresponding school logo Full length pants are required and may be black, grey, khaki or brown Closed toe shoes are required at all times. Sweaters/cardigans should not have visible labels on them (ex: PINK, Old Navy, etc.) Doral Academy and JAM award Perfect Attendance to students with zero absences and zero tardies. Please note that the DAC/JAM policy is different from the standard MDCPS policy for awarding perfect attendance To ensure students make their best effort to be present at school every day, referrals will be issued for the following: 5 unexcused absences = 1 referral 10 tardies = 1 referral 10 early releases = 1 referral

9 Student Uniform STUDENT UNIFORMS Tops:
Polo shirts must be red, white or navy blue and embroidered with the school name and logo. All shirts must be tucked inside pants at all times. Bottoms: Pants/skorts may be navy blue or khaki. Belts must be worn at all times. They must be plain, black, and fastened securely at waist level. Shoes: Black closed toe shoes or sneakers must be worn. No sandals, crocs, boots, heels or platform shoes are allowed. Sweaters: Navy blue uniform sweatshirts and sweaters with embroidered school logo may be worn. 11 Volunteers The School Volunteer Program consists of electronic registration and background checks. There are two different levels of volunteers. Any individual interested in volunteering in Doral Academy MUST register through the Community Portal at Level 1 - Complete a database background check Level 2 - Complete a fingerprint background check Day chaperones for field trips Classroom volunteers Overnight chaperones Tutors

13 Rolling Book Bags STUDENT UNIFORMS

14 Honor Roll STUDENT UNIFORMS

Parents will be invited to the 4th Quarter Honor Roll

15 Recess In an effort to provide students with frequent unstructured play time, 20 minutes of recess has been added to all teacher schedules in grades 2nd-5th. Please note that while every effort will be made to abide by the recess schedule, teachers may forgo recess based on personal discretion and unforeseen weather conditions.

A Welcome Packet with specific art supplies by grade, classroom rules and expectations, art projects and home learning will be sent home the first week of school. Vocabularies will be updated in Ms. Elena page in the school webpage. Tests/ Quizzes: All tests will be announced a minimum of a week in advance. AR Test (3-5 Grades only): Students must to read 1 book and take the AR Test each quarter. Students will receive a Z (0%) if they have not taken the Test by the due date. I am Ms. Elena and I will be your child's Spanish teacher for the upcoming school year My academic goal is to create a dynamic environment that inspires and encourages the children to speak, read and write Spanish through fun and interesting techniques such as lectures, songs, movies, graphics, games, and activities. I know to achieve this goal it is essential that children read more books in Spanish and this can only be accomplished with your collaboration. After selecting the school, you will see all options available (Agenda, Jean Day, Field Trips …). 5. After selecting the item/event, click ADD items to CART. 6. Then LOGIN or CREATE a NEW ACCOUNT. 7. After logging in you can see the items in your cart and proceed with the purchase (here you MUST SELECT A STUDENT) 8. 32 Dismissal Procedures Parent Pickup
3rd grade will dismiss in the same area as 2nd Grade (Carlos Albizu Parking) Child must notify me when leaving Please, no “mini-conferences” at dismissal Rainy Day Dismissal Reminder! If any changes are made to your child’s usual dismissal area please call the school to notify me! After Care Students will report directly to after care teacher (Enrollment REQUIRED!!) Bus Students are picked up by our assistant and escorted to the bus area.

33 D.A.C. NO items (home learning, book bags, projects, etc.) will be brought to the classroom after instruction has begun. Lunch boxes that are dropped off will be taken directly to the cafeteria and placed on an unsupervised table for your child to pick up during their scheduled lunch period. Our staff has increased yet again, therefore NO PARKING IS ALLOWED IN THE FRONT!!!! If you must get off the car for any reason, you must park in Carlos Albizu University. If you are running late you may NOT leave your child in aftercare unless they are pre-enrolled.

34 Florida Standards Assessment
All third graders in the state of Florida will be taking the FSA Reading and Math standardized test . The state of Florida requires all 3rd graders to pass this assessment in order to be promoted to 4th grade. This test will be taken during Spring 2019. The testing window (tentative dates) will be April 1-12th (Reading). May 1-14th (Math).

Accelerated Reader (AR) I-Ready Reflex Math WonderWorks Reading Intervention *Parental support is PRICELESS!*

36 I-Ready I-Ready is an online program to help students improve reading skills. Students will be given a username and password to use in both school and home. Username/password will be in the agenda and should be memorized. For home learning, students will be required to complete the weekly assignments. Students are required to complete 45 minutes on a weekly basis!! Students should not attempt to log in to I-Ready until they are given a username and password, and until they have been instructed to do so by the teacher. I-Ready will be counted as a grade at the end of every academic quarter. Please DO NOT assist your child at home in completing the assignments.

37 Accelerated Reader Students will receive an individualized AR goal and are expected to meet it on a weekly basis. It will be counted for a Reading grade at the end of every quarter. . 30 minutes of daily silent reading is a MUST! . To check if a book is AR and to determine the reading level, go to .
