How do we send information?
Voice message handling Usually includes both the actual data and the explanation of what the data means. Example: “We have six C-182s, 12 pilots, 18 observers, 20 scanners and three cameras” This message has 13 words and three punctuation marks. Imagine having to send hundreds of these messages and how much bandwidth it would take. ORWG March 2019 Communications Webinar

How can this message be condensed?
“A6, B12, C18, D20, K3” How can this be accomplished? Use a brevity message form: A - number of C-182 B – number of pilots C - number of observers D – number of scanners K – number of cameras ORWG March 2019 Communications Webinar

The Brevity Message Initiator of message fills out a form with the data to be sent and gives it to the radio operator Initiating operator sends line numbers and data Receiving operator copies the data onto his/her copy of the form into the appropriate lines Completed form delivered to recipient ORWG March 2019 Communications Webinar
