3. Attendance
Please make sure your child gets to school by 9:15 everyday.
Please send a or note for early pick up so that they will be packed up and ready.
Please be sure if your child is out to send a note in when they return!
If there is a change in the way your child is going home, please either send a note in the morning, call, or by 1:30pm.

4. mClass Assessment
Each county in NC will use the mClass Reading 3D Program in order to ensure all students are able to read by 3rd grade.
Your child will be assessed three times a year. After each assessment period, you will receive a Home Connect letter. The letter will show your child’s achievements and offer suggestions on how to continue to help your child improve.
Specific areas of need may include:
Hearing and using sounds in spoken words (Phonemic Awareness)
Knowing sounds of letters and sounding out written words (Alphabetic Principle)
Reading words in stories easily, quickly and correctly (Accuracy and Fluency)
Understanding what they read (Reading Comprehension)
This year we will test reading level using a new series of books. These books are comprised of high quality texts that reflect demands in text complexity and comprehension questions existing in standards.

Research in order to write about a topic
Explain what students will be required to learn/do in writing this year.

7. This year in math we will learn how to:
Read, Write and Count to 150
Add and subtract within 20
Work with addition and subtraction equations
Tell and write time to the hour and half hour
Reason with shapes and their attributes
Understand what digits means (place value)
Measure lengths using non standard units
Explain what students will be required to learn/do in math this year.

8. Science This year in science we will learn:
Force and Motion-Understand how forces (pushes and pulls) affect the motion of an object
Earth Systems, Structures, and Processes-Understand the physical properties of Earth materials that make them useful in different ways
Ecosystems-Understand characteristics of various environments and behaviors of humans that enable plants and animals to survive.
Earth in the Universe- Recognize the features and patterns of the Earth/Moon/Sun system as observed from Earth.
Molecular Biology-Summarize the needs of living organisms for energy and growth.
Explain what students will be required to learn/do in science this year.

9. Social Studies This year in social studies we will learn:
How to be a Good Citizen
Understand the importance of rules
Communities Celebrate
Understand the diversity of people in communities
Finding Our Way Around a Community
Understand basic economic concepts
Caring for Our Community
Understanding how we change our environment
Explain what students will be required to learn/do in social studies this year.

10. Standard Based Grading
Level 4: Exemplary- Student consistently demonstrates an in-depth understanding of the standards, concepts and skills taught during this reporting period

Parent Involvement
Please be sure you have signed up to be a volunteer here at Leesville if you would like to help in the classroom or go on Field Trips. There is a computer in the Library that allows you to sign up to be a volunteer for the year. You must renew this every year.
