What is a Portrait? A portrait is a painting, photograph, sculpture, or other artistic representation of a person, in which the face and its expression is predominant. Successfully captured portraits display the likeness, personality, and even the mood of the subject. Evolution of Portraiture
The art of portraiture is considered one of the most important facets of art history. Dating all the way back to the Egyptians, portraits have been a key theme in which the purpose for creating has evolved over thousands of years. Whether for reasons of vanity or record-keeping the genre of portraiture has continued to grow in popularity through the ages, yet our motivations for creating portraits as well as the styles of execution have seen considerable transformation and variation.
