6 Two Projects Series of M.A. Skills Institute Trainings
Reminder post card mailing for month old cohort

7 Skills Institute Timing Was Great:
Skills institute update was available and the State wanted to train local teams CHDP Coalition member. asked IPAC for assistance to assure that CHDP provider staff were well trained and comfortable with vaccine administration; handling and storage

8 Train the Trainers July, Immunization Branch team trained 21 people to be trainers. Trainers drawn from the greater Bay Area CARE counties: Alameda, Berkeley, Contra Costa, Marin, Monterey, San Francisco, San Mateo Including FQHC members: Asian Health, Tiburcio Vasquez, Silva and West Berkeley Family Practice

9 2009- Three workshops 2010- Four workshops
Trained 140 Medical Assistants and LVN’s Workshops held in South, North and Tri-Valley areas in Alameda Held in July and August to help MAs be ready for Back to School rush

10 MA Skills Institute Committee
Alameda Alliance, Washington Hospital, City of Berkeley IZ and Alameda IZ, Vaccine reps ~4 face to face or conference calls were needed Wanted geographic access: Trainings held in North, South and Central county locations

11 Scheduling Summer time, slower for practices
Complete trainings before back to school rush Late afternoon to increase willingness of providers to give staff time off Light meal provided by different vaccine manufacturers

12 The Trainees Workshops limited to 22 persons
Every workshop had a waiting list People on waiting list were given priority to register 2nd year

13 Skills Institute Training
Focus was on vaccine administration, handling and storage, and use of immunization registry Trainees with a wide range of skills and experience Provided combination of interactive lecture, video and hands on skills building via skills stations

14 Trainees were a Delight!
Participants loved it. Bonus: there are few opportunities for MAs to update and renew their skills We built relationships with the trainees and distributed our educational materials.

Teamed with Alameda Alliance to query for month old cohort for several high volume Medi-Cal providers Alliance provided 4000 mailing labels in response to query!

Reminder about missing vaccines Seasonal flu alert “Many Hands Make Light Work” IPAC “volunteers” stayed after regular meeting (and offered food provided by Vaccine Reps) After a high energy, fast paced 1.5 hours mission accomplished!

21 Concluding Thoughts IPAC has completed many worthwhile projects, must structure project to fit varying capacity Very Important to Thank all who have contributed to these projects.

Write grants, raise funds Provide strategic planning and continuity/coordination Pump up the current membership: Its time to call for ALL members to participate for us to be a more effective and efficient coalition. What can we do to participate? Increase membership Team build and expand membership
