5 What is atmospheric perspective?
Aerial perspective, also called atmospheric perspective method of creating the illusion of depth, or recession, in a painting or drawing by modulating color to simulate changes effected by the atmosphere on the colors of things seen at a distance

7 What do you think a landscape needs to have to give it depth?
depth of field the distance between the nearest and the furthest objects that give an image judged to be in focus in a camera. In photography this is used as a focal distance

8 Ogden Trails Landscape
Find an image Ogden Trails – trails on this side of the mountain Sketch When you are done sketching(lightly), get your image approved, get a large paper, add background with chalk

9 Project Expectations Foreground, middle ground and background
Foreground – detail and brighter – acrylic paint Middle ground – a little less detail and duller (oil pastel) Background – dullest(atmospheric perspective) and the least amount of detail(calk and sprayed) Ogden Trail Try your best, have fun! Due end of class Friday Enter into contest – free t-shirt and prizes, 1st place $100-!

10 Dividing a landscape There are 3 sections in a landscape.
The background The middle ground The foreground Draw on your photograph now the horizon background line, horizon line, middle ground line and foreground line.

11 How to show atmospheric perspective
It gets lighter and bluer as it is farther back. It is more faded and blended together. Using chalk pastel you will color in the background light and faded to show atmospheric perspective. Blend with a paper towel to make smooth.

12 Create background Everyone will select a photo and draw on the photo where the background ends, where the middle ground ends, and where the foreground ends. Once done you will come and get a large paper. You will each use chalk pastel to create the background colors than spray. Make sure your name is on the paper before you put it onto the drying rack.

13 Clean up! You should put all the chalk pastels back into the containers. You should put all the oil pastels back into the containers. You need to use a wet paper towel and wash off your table. Make sure that you table is dry and clean and all supplies are put back in the middle of the table.

14 Exit Pass How are you creating atmosphere perspective in your art? If you are not, how could you add it? How are you showing you have a fore ground, middle ground, and back ground in your work? Next class we will complete the middle ground with oil pastels and spray our piece again.
