Hammurabi’s Code The code was created so that everyone would know the laws & punishments for breaking them The Code of Hammurabi was named after a Hammurabi (first ruler of the first Babylonian dynasty) in ancient Mesopotamia. Was created between 1792 BCE- 1750BCE The Code is the earliest known record of law set forth by a government. It contains 282 Laws; Included laws that covered trade, business and prices, family law, criminal law, and civil law. Two innovations- 1 for collecting taxes that were fair, another that set prices and wages for his people
