Climate Zones and Vegetation
Tropical Climate Area in between Tropic 2 categories Tropical Rain Forest Can receive over 100 inches of rain in a year Produce lush and heavy vegetation Little Sunlight reaches the ground since Canopy blocks it Tropical Savanna Climate Rain falls just few months of the year Savanna- broad grassland with few trees

Climate Zones and Vegetation
Mid-Latitude Climates Found between 23.5 and 60 degrees north and south Most of the worlds population live in this climate zone Mixing of air masses, temperatures change with seasons, also called temperate climates Marine West Coast Climate Receive winds from the ocean Winters would be rainy and mild Summers are cool Deciduous and coniferous forests in these areas
5
Climate Zones and Vegetation
Mid-Latitude Climates (Continued) Mediterranean Climate Mild, rainy winters, but hot dry summers Shrubs and short trees Humid Continental Climate Inland areas Winters- long, cold and snowy, Summers are short but can be very hot Deciduous trees, and vast grasslands Humid Subtropical Climate Mid-latitude close to the tropics Rain throughout the year, but heaviest during hot humid summer Winters are short and mild Palms, oaks, are types of trees that grow
6
Climate Zones and Vegetation
High Latitude Climates Subarctic Climate Few people live here Winters are very cold and bitter, Summers do get above freezing Evergreen forests known as taiga grow in this type of region Tundra Climate Close to the poles Vast treeless plains Has permafrost in soil lower than a few inches down Top soil turns to marsh during summer month Ice Cap Climate Great sheets of ice, bitterly cold Temps average below freezing Can grow lichens on rocky parts

Climate Zones and Vegetation
Dry Climates Dry or partially dry areas Hot during day, cold at night Dry climate at any latitude Desert Climate Receive less than 10 inches of rain per year Scattered plants, scrub and cacti Steppe Climate Partly dry grasslands, usually around deserts 10-20 inches of rain a year Means treeless plain Bushes and short grass
8
Climate Zones and Vegetation
Highland Climate Comes with elevation. Cool climates, Timberline- point at which trees stop growing on a mountain, might have shrubs and flowers in meadows
