Status of nucleolar channel systems in uterine secretions accurately reflects their prevalence—a marker for the window of implantation—in simultaneously obtained endometrial biopsies Fangyin Meng, M.D., Ph.D., Gregory Zapantis, M.D., Samuel Z. Figure 2 Indirect immunofluorescence micrographs of paraffin sections from endometrial biopsies (A and C) and of cells from uterine secretions (B and D). Note the secretion (D) and biopsy (C) were from the same patient and were collected in immediate succession. Cells were stained with antibodies against epithelial cell-specific cytokeratin (a and b; red) and against vimentin with preference for stromal cells (a’; green). Monoclonal antibody 414 (mAb414) stained nuclear pore complexes (NPCs) and NCSs (b’, c, and d; green). All cells were counterstained for DNA to identify nuclei (a’’, b’’, c’, and d’; blue). Note that NPCs in one nucleus (arrowheads) and two NCSs (arrows) are highlighted (b’, c, and d). Merged images are shown (a’’’, b’’’, c’, and d’). All images are of the same magnification (scale bar in a = 10 μm). Fertility and Sterility , DOI: ( /j.fertnstert ) Copyright © 2017 American Society for Reproductive Medicine Terms and Conditions

Figure 3 Graph of NCS prevalences (%) in biopsies segregated according to NCS status of uterine secretions, positive (blue) and negative (green). Prevalences differ significantly according to status (P=.0004; Mann-Whitney). The limit for significant NCS prevalence based on previous studies is indicated (10%).
