Source 1 O: Political cartoon from 1970’s
C: This cartoon depicts the invasion of Cambodia by Vietnam using the signs, aircraft, and soldiers standing over people face down in the water P: The purpose of the cartoon is to show the power that the soldiers had over them when they were invading V: This cartoon is important because it gives us a sense of the power struggle during the war L: The cartoon makes Cambodia seem evil, because of them getting back at the Vietnamese, but the cartoon doesn’t show the events prior Vietnam in Cambodia

Source 2 O: Political cartoon from 1970’s
C: The cartoon contains a pair of scissors with shoes and faces as if they are walking, with the label “attempted censorship” P: The purpose of this cartoon is to show the efforts that Richard Nixon was putting forth to limit the media after the Pentagon Papers were released V: The cartoon is important because it represents Nixon’s efforts to protect America through media L: The only negative to the cartoon is that it does not give enough information for it to make sense to someone without background knowledge Pentagon Papers Cartoon

Source 3 O: Political cartoon from 1970’s
C: The cartoon is showing Vietcong pushing down a domino labeled Vietnam, which will then push all the others down (domino theory.) P: The purpose of the cartoon is to show how the beginning of the war has now affected Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Burma, India, and Bangladesh. V: The cartoon is important because it explains the power Vietcong had over other countries and their ability to affect them forever. L: Although the cartoon shows they have been affected, it does not show how exactly they have been changed because of Vietcong. Domino Theory

Compare/Contrast Sources 1 and 2
Both Source 1 and Source 3 focus on the new found power that Vietnam has gained over other territories during the war. Source 1 suggests that their actions when taking over Cambodia have gotten some of them killed in return; however, Source 3 says all blame should be put on Vietnam for starting the continuation of destruction in the first place, referencing the Domino Theory.

Questions: Evaluate why exactly the shootings at both Kent State and Jackson State were carried out. Argue the danger and worry associated with releasing the Pentagon Papers.
