The Write Tools (Highlighting/Annotating)- Bicycle Safety
In cooperative/collaborative groups, to aid in their close reading, student will share and discuss their personal annotations on the text “Bicycle Safety”. Follow the directions below to complete the activity. Get into assigned cooperative/collaborative groups. Using the Highlighting Rules/ Codes for Annotating, highlight and annotate the article, Bicycle Safety. Using the iPad app called Corkulous, post a sticky note sharing with your group one of your annotation explanations. Then, respond to another group member’s stick note using an arrow note. Be sure to include any textual evidence or clues that support your opinions. Pass the iPad to next group member. This task uses: Common Core/NG Standard(s): SL.6.1Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grade 6 topics, texts, and issues, building on others' ideas and expressing their own clearly. SL.6.5 Include multimedia components (e.g., graphics, images, music, sound) and visual displays in presentations to clarify information. Arnett Grade Level/Subject: 6th Grade Literacy Level 2 Special Directions/Considerations: Students need to have done a cold read of the text initially in order to follow The Write Tools rule of “read first, highlight/annotate second.” Activity Evaluation: Students will peer edit/evaluate The Write Tools- Codes for Annotating Highlight/Annotation Rubric Prerequisites for students: Prior reading of the text.
