News Fowler’s Homework Reminders Upcoming Events A Peek at Our Week
1st elizabeth.fowler @dcsms.org News Week of April Upcoming Events A Peek at Our Week We will have ice cream Fridays through 4/20 - $1 PTA meeting – April 17th at 10 am in the cafeteria April 20 – Hat Day $1 April 24 – Progress reports May 3- Field Trip to Botanic Gardens Reading: We will read Where Do Chicks Come From this week. We will ask and answer questions about key details in a text. (RL1.1) Know and use various text features to locate key facts or information in a text. (RI1.5) Compare and contrast two nonfiction books that teach the same topic. (RI1.9) Find reasons that an author gives to help support his/her point. (RI1.8)Retell with main idea and details. (RI1.2) Connections between people, events, ideas (RI1.3) Math: We will add 3 whole numbers within 20 to solve word problems. (1OA.2) The student will use properties of operations to add and subtract. (1.OA. 3) Count, read, and write numerals, and represent a number of objects to 120. (NBT.1) Writing: Students will write informational pieces. (W1.1, W1.2) Sight Words: We will work on List 2 of the third 100 list this week. Practice the highlighted words in your child’s folder . Language: We will learn to use commas in a series. (L1.1.2) Spelling: boxes, edge, meter, caution, reporting, study, tapping, sounded, taping, catch, change, often Homework Monday: Language sheet. Read Take Home Book and answer comprehension questions. Tuesday: Math sheet and read Take Home Book Wednesday: Read Take Home Book Thursday: Math sheet and read a book from home Read the take home book in the green folder and answer the questions!!!! This is very important! Return them to school on Thursday. Vocabulary- hatch- to come out of an egg yolk- the yellow part of an egg wobbly- shaky rooster- an adult male chicken hen- adult female chicken Reminders Your child may buy ice cream on Friday for S1. Don’t forget! Your child must master 70% of Language Arts skills AND 70% of Math skills AND read and comprehend Level I independently to promote to 2nd grade.
