French Café Event Preston Street Primary Edinburgh May 2008 Lorna Macdonald DHT Aims: To trial ML outcome: LAN253 MB (2nd level) To create a real context for P6 pupils to purposefully use French To involve the community in the life and learning within school To raise money for Link School in Ghana

Empowerment - the pupils: Led event from planning stage; had real say Invited guests from local community; relevant Made décor; personalized Met guests at front door; social skills Entertained guests; cross curricular, fun

Pupil Feedback 1. Main thing I learned- more French from the guests to work together as a team people liked my music be confident talk to adults (in French) working without getting stressed

Pupil Feedback 2. Thing I liked most: being a waitress/ waiter/ my role the decorated hall eating croissants/ the food/ the drinks people that were there/ guests were kind playing music speaking to adults in French atmosphere
