Cross multiply
(2)(k) = (5)(10)
2k=50
2) Solve for the variable
2k=50
k=50/2
k=25

4. Example 2 If 8 is 5 then what is k? (2)(5) = (8)(k-7)
10 = 8k-56 (add 56 to both sides)
66 = 8k (divide by 8 on both sides)
8.25 = k

5. Example 3 Solve for “m”. (8)(m) = 6(m-4) (distribute)
8m=6m-24 (subtract 6m on both sides)
2m=-24 (divide by 2 on both sides)
m=-12

6. Example 4 Solve for “x”. (9)(x-10)=3(x+10) (distribute)
9x-90=3x+30 (add 90 to both sides)
9x=3x+120 (subtract 3x from both sides)
6x=120 (divide by 6 from both sides)
x = 20
