2 Chapter 15 (15th Edition) Create an outline of the Chapter using the following format Key Headings Evidence 3-4 statements reinforcing the key heading (some sections are longer and may require more…) Search (use the internet) to find a PRIMARY SOURCE DOCUMENT that reinforces the section of the chapter… clues should be given within the chapter for where to look- write 2-3 sentences that you find from the internet and be sure to reference them…

3 Example Reviving Religion
Roughly ¾ of Americans regularly attended church in 1850 Deism had been a growing belief as far back as the founding fathers… and encouraged the growth of Unitarians Unitarians believed that God was 1 person (not the trinity), stressed human goodness, rather than original sin, and good works The Second Great Awakening spreads with new religious revivals was a response to the perceived lack of spirituality Methodists and Baptists gained the most converts- both stressing conversion over predestination Denounces things such as alcohol and slavery, sin in general… and encourages women, many of them being the most enthusiastic of the congregations (feminization of religion) Primary Source-Christians will have their faith renewed. While they are in their backslidden state they are blind to the state of sinners. Their hearts are hard as marble. The truths of the Bible appear like a dream. They admit it to be all true; their conscience and their judgment assent to it; but their faith does not see it standing out in bold relief, in all the burning realities of eternity. But when they enter into a revival, they no longer see “men as trees, walking,” but they see things in that strong light which will renew the love of God in their hearts. This will lead them to labor zealously to bring others to Him.  - Charles Finney, Sermon 1835
