GRILLING 101

Charcoal vs. Gas Grill Whether you use a charcoal or a gas grill, it really comes down to personal preference. Many think the gas grill is easier to use while others think the charcoal grill adds a distinct straight from the grill flavor. Whichever grill you choose to use, a few basic rules will help you cook a fantastic and healthy meal!

Must Have Grill Tools Grill brush: Cleaning your grill can be a hassle, but if you have a grill brush, it will make the job so much easier. Once your grill is warm but cool enough to touch, use your grill brush to remove any leftover food or debris. Cooking with a clean grill is crucial. Tongs: Tongs are useful when you are cooking thicker cut foods such as chicken, steak, or pork chops. The tongs will make it easier to flip the food. Spatulas: Best used to flip hamburgers or veggie burgers or any other less firm foods.

Must Have Grill Tools Grill baskets: When grilling fish, a grill basket will help your fish from falling apart as it cooks. Baskets are also a wonderful tool to use when grilling several items such as vegetables; you can flip them all at once making it so much easier. Thermometer: It is very important to cook your foods to a safe temperature. Be sure to keep a thermometer on hand to prevent food borne illness.

Time to Cook! When grilling steaks or pork chops, let them sit out and come to room temperature before cooking. Chicken and fish should remain refrigerated until ready to cook. Prep the grill with non-stick cooking spray to help prevent food from sticking. When placing food on the grill, be sure to leave space between the items to promote even cooking.

Time Cook! to (continued)
Cook foods to recommended temperatures. Most food thermometers have the different food temperatures posted on the thermometer for your convenience. Once the food is ready to come off the grill, place the food on a clean plate. Never use a plate that has had raw meats on it.

Let It Rest Once you have your steak, chicken or pork chops sitting on a clean plate, let it rest for about 10 minutes. This step will help all the juices redistribute and is the key to preventing the meat from getting dried out.
