This winter has been unormal compare to previous winters where it has been no rainfall or snow and a lot of wind in the western part of Norway.
The vegetation in this area is forests of pines and close to the sea it is mostly brushes and grass.

Fire Services in these municipalities imposed restrictions using fire in the forest/wildland.
The fire in Laerdal – 18. January 2014.
The biggest fire since the second world war.

This fire was unexpected and it wasn’t a wildland fire.
Then, 27. January: The Fire in Flatanger
A brush fire spreading rapidly.
The road was blocked.
Appr. 60 buildings were burned down.

29. January: The Fire in Froya
One more fire occurs…
A new brush fire spreading rapidly.
Resources from Flatanger were moved to Froya.
Appr. 200 buildings were threatened.

More information about restrictions for using fires outdoors.
Trees have to be away from power lines.
Owners have to keep the vegetation down around the houses.
Fire officers have to do the planning for handling these fires.
Operational:
The management/leadership have to be improved (ICS).
The model of the Fire Services has to be reorganized.
What tools is it possible to use when we do not have aircraft under windy conditions and at the nighttime.?
