What is a PSA? What is a PSA?
A Public Service Announcement (PSA) is a messages in the public interest disseminated by the media without charge, with the objective of raising awareness, changing public attitudes and behavior towards a social issue. First started PSA during WWII - created a council to help with the efforts of the war. Slogans such as “Loose Lips sink ships” and “Keep em Rolling.” Slogans used to buy War Bonds to support the war.

History of PSA Advertising Council created to serve on nationwide campaigns to help with daily life. Examples - Smokey the Bear - “Only You can Prevent Forest Fires.” “A Mind is a Terrible Thing to Waste.” - United Negro College Foundation “Fight Cancer with a Check up and a Check.” - American Cancer Society The “Brain on Drugs” egg campaign has been one of the most recognized campaigns. Second “Brain on Drugs 2” Third - “Brain on Drugs - Heroin”

Steps to Producing a Quality PSA
Step 1 - Find a topic that is school appropriate that you would like to make a 30 second PSA on. Step 2 - Research the topic on your phone or computer. Step 3 - Create an individual treatment form for your idea for your PSA. Know your audience. Step 4 - Create a storyboard for your PSA. Step 5 - Meet with your group and share your ideas. Step 6 - Decide on one person’s PSA you would like to create.

Step 7 - Research again your topic as a group. Step 8 - Complete a new treatment form and Storyboard. Step 9 - When approved film PSA Step 10 - Edit PSA Step 11 - Get 3 Peer Reviews of your project Step 12 - Upload project to Google Classroom. DUE -

Let’s Get Started - Day 1 Decide on a school appropriate topic you would like to cover for a 30 second PSA. You have 15 minutes to research your topic and create a treatment of your idea. Beginning, Middle and End. (Individual) Then you have another 15 minutes to create your storyboard. (Individual)

Let’s Get Started - Day 1 Share your treatment form and storyboard with group. 10 minutes to share and choose one your group will do. Take 30 minutes to research the topic, create a GROUP treatment form and GROUP storyboard.

Let’s Get Started - Day 2 Film entire PSA
Edit PSA - adding titles, sound effect, that will be used to persuade your audience.

Let’s Get Started - Day 3 Finish Editing your PSA
Get 3 Peer Reviews of your Project before you export. Export project (H.264, Vimeo 720) Upload to Google Classroom Peer Evaluation of Group Members
