Guiding Principles Students path to graduation should be transparent, flexible and as simple as possible Students should be treated equitably through the consistent application of policy Students should have university-wide support in reaching success regardless of their affiliation(s) Students deserve communication in a timely manner Fall 2010

Guiding Principles Upon admission to Cal Poly, students should have a clear understanding of the expectations being placed upon them Policies and procedures should support the students learning experience Continuous review of our policies and practices should be performed regularly Policies and practices should promote quality programs and efficient use of resources Fall 2010

Academic Standards and Obligations All students are expected to be diligent in the pursuit of their courses of study in order that both they and the State receive maximum benefit from the educational opportunities provided Each student is responsible for his or her enrollments Students are expected to satisfy the academic demands required by their instructors Fall 2010

Concerns Addressed Consistent application and communication of policy Yo-Yo Students Students that have met all degree requirements that do not have a 2.0 GPA Fall 2010

Academic Probation & Disqualification The quality of academic performance is considered in the determination of a students eligibility to remain enrolled. Fall 2010

Academic Probation An undergraduate student is automatically placed on academic probation when their GPA drops below 2.0 – current term, Cal Poly cumulative, or Higher Ed cumulative Fall 2010

Academic Disqualification An undergraduate student is SUBJECT to disqualification when any of the following are true: 1.The student is on AP for two consecutive terms 2.The student has been on AP for four non- consecutive terms 3.The students Cal Poly cumulative GPA is below 2.0 Fall 2010

Academic Disqualification An undergraduate student will be disqualified when either of the following are true: 1.The student has been on AP three consecutive quarters 2.The student has been on AP three or more non- consecutive quarters and has a current CP cumulative or higher education cumulative GPA that is below a 2.0 Fall 2010

Notification Process Students being placed on AP Letter from the Registrar – provide them with information about available resources Students who are Subject To Disqualification Letter from the Registrar – inform them that they may not be eligible to take classes the coming quarter and that their college/department is currently reviewing their academic record Requires follow-up from the college/department Fall 2010

Notification Process Students who are being disqualified Letter from the Registrar – inform student that their academic performance no longer meets the university standards and that they are being disqualified If they do not want to appeal, they are asked to drop their classes for the next term If they would like to appeal, they are provided with instructions and due dates Fall 2010
