Your imagination is your preview of life's coming attractions
Your imagination is your preview of life's coming attractions Albert Einstein TRG is an educational program for grade 7 and 8 students to explore, dream and imagine their futures. The program allows students to see and experience adulthood through a safe and supported learning experience. Students will role play and journey into the future where they can explore the life of a working adult and then have the opportunity to return to the present, step out of their role and dream and plan for their own futures.
3
Map of TRG TRG consists of four units of study. The first three take the students into the future to experience: -adult life/work roles -adult lifestyle decisions -budgeting both money and time -planning a vacation -dealing with job loss, and -exploring the opportunity of entrepreneurship The fourth unit has the students stepping out of their roles and the future. It returns them to the present to explore their own futures through: -self-reflection of life/work roles -imaging and planning their future lifestyle -sharing their learning
4
Student Zone The Student Zone is the welcoming page for students. Here the students can complete their assignments, save and print their results, add personal reflections and find links to labour market and career development sites. The game is available to students 24/7 so they can access it not just at school but at home to share their Student Zone with their parents.
5
World of Work Survey The game begins and ends with the World of Work Survey. This is not a test but an opinion survey that allows students to examine their prior and post knowledge of the work world.
6
The future begins…dreaming
Students begin their journey into the future by imagining the lifestyle they want by selecting their dream home, vehicle, leisure items and activities.
7
Exploring adulthood… time management
Students role play a single, independent working adult approximately years in the future. Each student receives an occupational role and is ready to explore what it means to be a working adult. They quickly learn that between work and must do living activities there tends to be little time for leisure activities at the end of working week.
8
Exploring adulthood… money management
Reality will soon hit once they receive their pay cheque and stub. They will learn about gross and net pay and deductions. Students are required to re-examine their dream lifestyle and will work through a monthly expense sheet and budget. As a result the may need to make some adjustments to their lifestyle choices and re-select a new home, car, or leisure items or activities in order to live within their financial means and balance their budget.
9
Exploring adulthood… dealing with change
Disaster will strike and students will learn to cope with community challenges and personal change. They will go through a community disaster resulting in job loss. Students will respond to the disaster by exploring their options and preparing for a job search.
10
Starting a business TRG-SK emphasizes entrepreneurship as a response to this job loss and as a viable employment option in Saskatchewan. Through a partnership with Junior Achievement - SK, our province is the first to incorporate entrepreneurship as a core component of the game. Students will experience the JA Business Basics Program in three sessions. The first session – Starting a Business – has students exploring entrepreneurship, business opportunities in their community, and creating a simple business plan.
11
Hiring for a business The second entrepreneurship session – Hiring for a Business - engages students in the interviewing and hiring process. Each student will receive a new job in their newly created business based on their unique transferable skills.
12
Marketing a business In the final session – Marketing a Business - students create an advertising campaign for their newly formed business and present it to the community.
13

Sessions Saskatchewan has 13 Core and 9 Recommended sessions that are facilitated over hours. 3 of the Core sessions focus on entrepreneurship. The learning objectives for each session are cross-walked with English Language Arts, Career Education, Math, Science and Social Studies curricula. Although the game is on-line it is still facilitated by the teacher. There are detailed lessons that outline the delivery process, provide extended learning options and enhancements. Students are able to work independently, collaborate as a team, use technology in the learning process, and through both on-line and paper activities will practice decision-making, team work, creative and critical thinking skills.
