Some Review In our last lesson on the novel, we examined Fishman’s motives in writing this book and began to look at it as an argument. We also looked at the basic thesis Fishman is advancing and that is that we need to change the way we think about water and act on this new insight. Also last time we began to look at how Fishman supports this argument.

Additional Support Today, we are going to examine another chunk of Fishman’s support for his thesis, largely focusing on Chapter 6. Our exercise today: Form groups of 3-4 people. Examine Chapter 6 and answer the following questions using passages from the text to help you explain your answer when possible. Explain the water problems in Australia that Fishman is writing about in this chapter. How did the town of Toowoomba attempt to solve them? Why did it fail? How does this extended example fit in with Fishman’s thesis and why do you think he picked this example?
